Lou Ellen was born June 20, 1909, in Tekonsha, Michigan, and grew up in the town of Humble, Texas, during the oil boomtown days. She graduated from Texas University in 1931. She taught English and drama in the public schools in Humble and Navasota, Texas, until she married L. G. Wood in 1936. She was a member of the Methodist church all her life and was active in community service during all the years that she was in good health. She was a member of Spring Valley United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX since 1987. Lou Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Wood, who died in 1981. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Kilgore and her husband Doug, granddaughter Doris Lake and husband Robert, great-grandchildren John, Robyn, and Scott Lake, grandson Walter Robinson and wife Debra, and by her grandsons and their families who became part of her family late in her life: Darren and Dawn Kilgore and their children Katie and Mitch Kilgore, Brett and Julie Kilgore and their son Collin Kilgore. The funeral service will be held at Spring Valley United Methodist Church on July 1, 2004, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Valley United Methodist Church Foundation, 7700 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas, TX 75254 or to The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas for Hospice Care, 1400 W.
