- Jacob Diefenthaler and Elisabeth Weizel appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Rhine, Wisconsin. Other members of the household included William P. Diefenthaler, Frederick Diefenthaler, John Diefenthaler, Eva Diefenthaler, Jacob Diefenthaler and Mary Diefenthaler.
- He married Amelia Petzold, daughter of Gustav Petzold and Paulina (?), on 2 November 1901.
- The following appeared in a local newspaper: Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, the former Mary Diefenthaler, of 632 St. Paul street passed away at the age of 66 at her home at 8:45 p.m. Monday following a long illness. /P/ She was born on November 19, 1887 [sic], in the town of Rhine as the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Weitzel) Diefenthaler. /P/ On March 28, 1896, she was married to Jacob Jugenheimer and since that time the couple have made their permanent home here. /P/ Mrs. Jugenheimer is survived by her husband and nine children, Mrs. Fred (Elsie) Arndt of Kiel, Mrs. Alfred (Lydia) Luedke of Sheboygan, Mrs. Milfred (Norma) Stevens of Milwaukee, Mrs. Arno (Roma) Hagenow of Kiel, Mrs. Lorraine Schreiber and Miss Meta Jugenheimer at home, Harvey of Sheboygan, Oscar of Kiel and Arthur at home. One daughter preceded her in death in infanacy. /P/ Other survivors are eight grandchildren, and one brother, William Diefenthaler of New Holstein. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. /P/ Funeral services for the deceased will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home on Thursday at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery on the family lot. The Rev. Wallace Robertson of the First Presbyterian church of Sheboygan will officiate at the services.

- The following appeared in a local newspaper: William Diefenthaler Dies Sunday Morning. Death came to William Diefenthaler, 74, at a Sheboygan hospital Sunday morning. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church here, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery. /P/ The deceased was born in the town of Rhine in 1875, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Diefenthaler. He was married to the former Miss Amalia Petzoldt on Nov. 2, 1901. /P/ The couple were residents of Kiel for seven years following their marriage, and then moved to the town of New Holstein, where they resided for 39 years. They have been living at their present home, in Kiel, for the past two years. /P/ Survivors include the widow; four sons, two daughters, 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
- The following appeared on 16 May 1966 in The Sheboygan Press: Mrs. Amelia Diefenthaler, 84, of ___ North St, Kiel, died this morning at the Toth Nursing Home in Chilton. /P/ The former Amelia Petzold, she was born Sept. 29, 1881, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Gustave and Paulina Petzold. On Nov. 2, 1901, she was married to William Diefenthaler of the Town of Rhine. /P/ The couple resided in Kiel for seven years before moving to a farm in the Town of New Holstein, which they operated for 39 years. They retired and returned to Kiel in 1947. Mr. Diefenthaler died in August of 1949. Mrs. Diefenthaler lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Diefenthaler Jr., before going to the nursing home. /P/ She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a member of the Frauen Verein of the church. /P/ Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Alma) Brotkowski of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Jorgensen of Sheboygan; four sons, William Jr., and Elmer of Kiel, Harold of New Holstein, and Roland of Manitowoc; nine grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl Petzold of Sheboygan. /P/ Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peters United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. /P/ Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 3 p.m. Tuesday until 11 a.m., Wednesday and at the church from noon until time of services.
