  • The following appeared on 29 June 1922 in a local newspaper: Death claimed Mrs. Elizabeth Diefenthaeler on Sunday forenoon, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer, where she had been residing for a number of years. Her demise was due to the infirmities of old age, after an illness of about a week. The deceased, nee Weitzel, was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, August 8, 1839, and came to America in 1857 with her parents, who settled in the town of Rhine. She was married in 1860 to Jacob Diefenthaeler, after which the couple resided on a farm in the town of Rhine. In 1902 they disposed of the farm to their son Jacob Jr., and moved to Millhome, where they lived nine years. Eleven years ago they came to Kiel to spend their declining years. Mr. Diefenthaeler died in January, 1921. Thirteen children blessed their union of whom eight have passed away. The surviving children are a daughter and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Jacob Jugenheimer of Kiel, Fred. of Russell, John of Schleswig, Jacob of Rhine and William of the town of New Holstein. Also 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery.
