  • The following appeared on 21 June 1893 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: In the Church of the Sacred Heart at 9:30 o'clock this morning the nuptials of Miss Mary Rieger and Mr. Martin Ryan were solemnized, the Rev. Father Hines officiating. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. Frank Rieger of Lockport road.
         The bridesmaid was Miss Tillie Ryan, a sister of the groom, and the best man was Mr. Herman Rieger, a brother of the bride. The bridal robe was a white India silk, while the maide appeared in a dress of red material trimmed with green. The ushers were Mr. Peter Kaue, Mr. Thomas McDonald, Mr. Thomas Duffy.
         Following the ceremony a reception was given at the home of the bride's father on the Lockport road, which was attended by the near relatives of the bridal pair. After a visit to Washington, D. C., and other cities Mr. and Mrs. Ryan will make their home on Ontario avenue, this city.

  • Herman Martin Rieger became a widower at the 1 February 1896 death of his wife Caroline Weber.
  • The following appeared on 2 February 1896 in The Buffalo Courier: (Niagara Falls, Feb. 1) Mrs. Herman M. Rieger, nee Caroline Webert, died at an early hour this morning in the 23d year of her age. Her husband and infant child survive her. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart Monday morning at 9 o'clock.

  • The following appeared on 1 August 1908 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Frank Rieger, 76 years old, died at his late residence in Sugar street near Lockport street at 11 o'clock this morning after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Rieger has been in failing health for some time. He is survived by a wife, two sons, Herman M. and Frank, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Braas and Mrs. Martin T. Ryan of this city, and Mrs. S. Rieger of Lockport; and one syster, Mrs. Frances Regenhardt of this city.
         The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the house and at 9 o'clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart.
         Mr. Rieger has been a resident of Niagara County for over 50 yeaars, and of this city about 40 years. Both in business and in social life he was highly regarded for his sterling worth.

  • The following appeared on 21 August 1935 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: In ill health for several months, Mrs. Anna Bra[a]s, 74 years old, widow of Charles F. Braas, former prominent building contractor, died late yesterday at her summer home in the Lake road, near Wilson.
         Born in the town of Niagara, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reiger [sic], Mrs. Braas spent almost her entire life in Niagara Falls and was one of the best known residents of the north end of the city.
         Of genial disposition, Mrs. Braas had gained a wide circle of friends during her long residence here. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart church and had formerly taken an active part in its affairs.
         She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Francis Dolan, of this city, a sister, Mrs. Francis Reiger, of Lockport, and a brotherm, Herman M. Reiger, of East Orange, N. J. Three grandchildren also survive.
         Funeral services will be held from the Braas home, 1324 South Avenue, Friday at 8:30 o'clock, and at 9 o'clock from Sacred Heart church. Interment will be in the family plot in Riverdale cemetery.

  • The following appeared on 19 November 1935 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: Falls relatives were notified today of the death in East Orange, N. J., yesterday of Herman Rieger, 69 years old, a former well known resident of this city, who operated the Suspension Bridge Bottling company in Linwood avenue for many years. Mr. Rieger moved to East Orange about 15 years ago. He is survived by a wife and three daughters. Howard Rieger, this city, is his nephew.
  • The following appeared on 20 November 1935 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: Funeral services for Herman M. Rieger, former widely known Niagara Falls businessman, who died at his home in East Orange, N. J., on Mondayk, were held in East Orange today. Mr. Rieger was the son of the late Frank and Caroline Rieger, of this city. Besides his wife, Mrs. Jennie Rieger, and three daughters, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Frances Rieger, of Lockport.
