• Bernice Olin was born on 9 January 1906 in Michigan.
• She married Robert J. McVittie, son of William McVittie and Alice E. Wright, circa 1929.
• She was a trained hospital nurse, according to the 1930 census.
• Bernice Olin became a widow at the 1 December 1949 death of her husband Robert J. McVittie.
• The following appeared on 2 December 1949 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: The assistant superintendent of the major alloys department at the Electro-Metallurgical division of the Union Carbide and Carbon corporation since August 1, Robert J. McVittie, 42, of 116 Wallace drive, Grand Island, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, after being stricken with a heart attack at the plant earlier in the day.
       Born in this city, he graduated from Niagara Falls high school and received his degree from the University of Michigan in January, 1930.
       He joined the Electromet on February 12, 1930, in the general engineering department and was transferred to operations as a student engineer on January 1, 1932. His promotion to technical assistant became effective April 1, 1934.
       On September 1, 1942, he was transferred to the company's Portland, Ore., plant as superintendent, returning to this city as assistant to the superintendent, major alloys, on April 1, 1946.
       As one of a group of engineers, Mr. McVittie assisted in starting a plant to manufacture calcium carbide for the Electromet in Brazil from August to November, 1947.
       Very active in Boy Scout work, he was a member of the Niagara Falls Industrial club, the Sandy Beach Property Owners association and the Grand Island Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church.
       He is survived by his wife, Bernice; one son, Donald; a daughter, Barbara, all of Grand Island; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McVittie, this city; and two brothers, Russell L. McVittie, this city, and Arthur R. McVittie, Alloy, W. Va.
       The Rev. F. Frankland Beck will officiate at funeral services at 2 p. m. Monday at the Gridley Funeral Home, 750 Main street.
• Bernice Olin died on 14 December 1994 at age 88.
