Two friends, Frank Wagner, 816 Dearborn, and Adam Truck, 1952 Niagara, were with Boos at the time and attempted to save him. They say Boos came to the surface only once then sank from sight. [:CR;] The body was recovered several hours later by Lieut. William R. Connolly and Patrolman Henry Battels and Fred Shotwell of the Austin street station. Medical Examiner Earl G. Danser ordered the body removed to the morgue. - The following appeared on 23 August 1926 in the Buffalo Evening News: [Died] Suddenly in Buffalo, Aug. 21, 1926, Joseph P. Boos, beloved husband of Marion (nee Simpson), father of Marion A., son of Mary A. and the later Peter Boos; brother of Henry J. Boos, Mrs. James Foley and Mrs. Otto Utzig. Funeral from his late home, 110 Farmer street, Wednesday morning, August 25, at 8:30 and from Saint Francis Xavier church at 9 o'clock. Friends invited to attend. Interment at Mount Olivet cemetery.
- The following appeared on 25 August 1926 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Credit for the recovery of the body of Joseph Boos, 110 Farmer street, who was drowned last Saturday in the Eire canal at the foot of Austin street, was yesterday claimed by Charles Newell, 2114 Niagara street, and William Schamrock, 2112 Niagara street. In a letter to the Courier-Express, Newell and Schmrock assert they pulled the body from the water after grappling for ten minutes.
