Mr. Anderson, 80, a retired Amherst police detective, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Anderson was a graduate of Riverside High School. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II.
After the war, he worked as a truck driver for King Fuel Oil and Moving Company until 1960.
Mr. Anderson began work as a police officer with the Amherst Police Department in 1961. He became a detective in 1969 and retired in 1987.
He was an avid ice fisherman and hunter whom friends counted on as camp cook. He also remained active as secretary of the Getzville Volunteer Fire Company and was a board member for the Ransom Creek Community Church.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Margaret C. King; one son, Amherst Highways Superintendent Robert N; three sisters, Elsie Morin of Saranac Lake, Audrey Watts of North Tonawanda and Marilyn Olean of Lockport; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
