Breivis, a Broome County coroner, in the death of DeForest Babcock, 57, of Five Mile Point, an employe of Binghamton Medical Depot who was killed about 10 o'clock this morning when a half-ton coal conveyor tipped over and fractured his skull. He was employed at the depot as a mechanic.
Bolts had been removed from the uprightrs supporting the 10 feet high machine, while it was under repair, Dr. Breivis said. It tipped over, pinning the workman to the ground, fracturing his skull and inflicting a severe head cut, the coroner said.
The accident was investigated by Chief Criminal Deputy John Perhach and Undersheriff Ross L. Cooley.
Mr. Babcock is survived by his wife, Selena. The body was taken to the G. H. Scholderer Funeral Home, 269 Chenango Street. - The following appeared on 2 August 1944 in The Binghamton Press: DeForest Babcock. DeForest Babcock, 56, of 69 Mason Avenue died suddenly at the Binghamton Medical Depot, Tuesday morning. He is survived by his wife, Selena. The body was removed to the George H. Scholderer Home for Funerals, 269 Chenango Street. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Friends may call at the funeral home today and Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m.

The funeral of Deforest Babcock will be held at the George H. Scholderer Home for Funerals, 269 Chenango St., Friday at 10:30 a. m. The Rev. Paul C. Price will officiate. Burial will be in Walton.
