  • The following appeared on 18 March 1924 in The Davenport Democrat & Leader: Mrs. Frieda Mengel, wife of William Mengel, passed away at the family home, one mile east of Pleasant Valley, Monday evening at 11:45 o'clock.
         Mrs. Mengel was taken ill last Thursday, but her conditionw was not considered serious, and her death came as a great shock to her family and many friends.
         Deceased was born in Davenport, April 13, 1872, and was united in marriage to William Mengel in 1887, at Davenport. For many years the family residence was a Fourt and Marquette streets, where Mr. Mengel was engaged in the meat business. They retired from active business and moved to Pleasant Valley two years ago.
         Surviving are the husband, William Mengel, two daughters, Mrs. Fred Glass of Davenport and Miss Elizabeth, at home, and five sons, William, Jr., of Davenport, Wendlin of Davenport, Fred J. of Hampton, Ill., Edmond and Arno W. of Davenport. Three grandchildren and two brothers, Harry Schroeder of Davenport and Alfred Schroeder of Waterloo, also survive.
         Funeral Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 O'clock from Runge's chapel. Interment will be made in Fairmount Cemetery.
