- The following appeared on 2 November 1901 in the Davenport Republican: Most people of the city express the opinion that the small boy let them severely and pleasantly alone Hallowe'en night, but H. F. G.. Schroeder, the harnessmaker at Second and Brown streets, talks in a very different strain. Why he was annoyed so much does not appear on the face of the returns, but it is suspected that Mr. Schroeder, perhaps unjustly, is not very popular with the youth in the portion of the city where he dwells. At any rate, night before last, according to the evidence at hand, his house was the object of attention on the part of about 50 boys. Some had the annoying tick-tack as their offensive weapon and still others had corn and similar deadly weapons. During the excitement one of the large panes of glass in the front window of the shop was struck so that it became cracked. Mr. Schroeder discovered this condition of the window when he rose yesterday morning and he hastened to learn, if possible, who the guilty parties were. Acting on the statement of a number of lads the harnessmaker caused the arrest of a couple of children. He told Squire Hall they were 15 or 16 years of age and the justice issued the warrants with that understanding. When th eprisoners were hauled into the august presence of the court it was seen that they were only 9 and 10 years old. The trial proceeded and the boys were discharged. They denied having broken the window and none of the witnesses would identify them positively as the guilty parties.
After the dismissal of the charge in Justice Hall's court Mr. Schroeder went to Magistrate Finger and asked to have the boys arrested again on the same charge. He was turned down, however. - Heinrich Friedrich C. Schroeder and Anna Claussen appeared in the Iowa state census of 1905 in Davenport, Iowa, at 1630 Rockingham Road.
