Janet Greenshields became a widow at his death.
He was interred at Muirkirk Parish Kirkyard, Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland.
A single grave marker identifies the graves of Francis Kirkup and Janet Greenshields and Christina Kirkhope, James Kirkup, William Pearson Kirkhope and James Kirkhope . The monument was erected by John Kirkhope in memory of his parents and siblings.
