• Bertha E. Smith was born on 14 April 1884 in Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio.
• She married Fred C. Hoffman, son of Daniel Hoffman and Emma Dietz, on 16 March 1904 in Erie County, Ohio, by license issued the same day, with Rev. Theo. J. Stellhorn, Evangelical Lutheran Pastor, officiating.
• Bertha E. Smith became a widow at the 17 August 1938 death of her husband Fred C. Hoffman.
• Bertha E. Smith died on 10 September 1967 at age 83 in Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio, at Providence Hospital.
• She was interred at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio.
• The following appeared on 11 September 1967 in the Sandusky Register: Mrs. Bertha E. Hoffman, 83, widow of Fred C. and a resident of 1916 Campbell St., died Sunday evening in Providence Hospital after an illness of two weeks.
       Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
       Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ruth D. Hoffman, at home; two sisters, the Misses Ada and Mary Smith, both Sandusky and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1938, three sisters and a brother.
       Friends may call after 3 p.m. tuesday at Quick's Funeral Home, where funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. J. Christian Quello officiating. Burial is to be in Oakland Cemetery.
