- Benedict Petersen was born on 17 April 1858 in Germany.
- He married Caroline Hoffman, daughter of Frederick Hoffman and Louisa Wagner, on 13 August 1924 in Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio, with Rev. F. Lambertus officiating, at the parsonage of the St. John's Lutheran Church.
- The following appeared on 14 August 1924 in The Sandusky Star-Journal: (Port Clinton) Benedict Peterson and Mrs. Caroline Pautlitz were married at the parsonate of the St. John's Lutheran church, Wednesday morning, by the Rev. F. Lambertus. Following the marriage ceremony, the newly marriaed couple left for Chicago, where they will spend their honeymoon, and visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Pautlitz.

Mr. Petersen was a retired businessman and director of the East Clinton Lumber and Coal Co., and was well-known in this locality. He had been active in the Odd Fellows lodge for 59 years.
He is survived by his widow, Caroline P. Petersen, sons, Fred, Edward, Benedict, here, and Christopher, in Boone, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Helena Hostrup, here; step-daughter, Mrs. Ida Sandergeld, here, and step-son, John Pautlitz, Chicago; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The J. A. Neidecker Co. has charge of arrangements.
