- The following appeared on late spring 1892 in The Buffalo Morning Express: A number of Buffalo people went to Hamburg on Monday evening to assist in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Stuart. Over 300 invitations were issued for the celebration. The house was decorated with plants and flowers. The dining-room was especially pretty: strings of simlax were suspended from the ceiling and caught at the corners of the tables by bows of yellow ribbon, a center-piece of Feria roses enhancing the effect. Mrs. Stuart received in the parlor, assisted by her four daughters, Mrs. Homer Andrews of New York, Mrs. F. W. Constantine of Buffalo, Mrs. S. W. Stuart of Hamburg and Mrs. R. R. Stuart of Syracuse. Mrs. C. C. Haviland and Mrs. W. H. Stuart poured tea and and coffee. They were assisted in the evening by Miss Constantine, Miss Kinnie, Miss Fosic and Miss Oakley of Hamburg, Miss Titus and Miss Dart of Buffalo. Two poems written for the occasion, one by W. H. Stuart of Gawanda and the other by Mrs. Kirby of Allegheny City, Pa., were read by Miss Dart. The presents were beautiful and numerous. Among the guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Stuart and son, Mrs. V. B. Chase of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stuart and Mrs. Blackney of Gowanda; Mrs. Cornelia Wilson of Philadelphia; Mrs. and Miss Litchfield of Jackson, Mich; Judge Robert C. Titus and Miss Titus, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Rehm, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sprague, Mr. and Mrs. Keyes, Miss Alice Wilson, Miss B. M. Adams, Miss Mattie Belle Dart, Mr. J. L. Harwood, Mr. Henry Werner and Mr. Otto Ring of Buffalo.
- The following appeared on 2 September 1894 in The Buffalo Courier: The wedding of Miss Mattie Belle Dart and Mr. John Lyth Harwood will take place Wednesday at 4 o'clock, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Constantine of Cottage Street.
- He married Martha Belle Dart, daughter of (?) Dart and Sarah Virginia Stuart, on 5 September 1894 in Buffalo, New York, at the residence of F. W. Constantine.
- The following appeared on 6 September 1894 in the Buffalo Evening News: At 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Constantine, Miss Mattie Belle Dart was married to Mr. John Lyth Harwood. Rev. Thomas R. Slicer performed the marriage service, the bride and groom and their attendants standing in front of a background of palms and fern. The bride wore a simple gown of white silk, with demi-train and carried a bouquet of bride roses in her ungloved hands.
She was attended by Miss Jennie Kuhn, who wore a pretty costume of white India silk and mull and carried a handful of Mignonette.
Mr. Lyall Harwood, a brother of the groom, was best man and Mr. Otto King and Mr. Thomas Coughlin were the ushers.
The wedding supper was served in a large tent on the lawn, white and green, the favorite combination for brides' tables, being used in the decorations.
Mr. and Mrs. Harwood have gone to New York on their bridal journey and will be at home after Oct. 1 at 38 College street. - John L. - The following appeared on 18 March 1948 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Formerly a voice teacher in Buffalo, Mrs. Marjorie Harwood Roberts died Tuesday in Knickerbocker Hospital, New York. She lived with her mother, Mrs. Mattie Belle Harwood, at 6 East 36th St., New York City.
A native of Buffalo, Mrs. Roberts was graduated from Lafayette High School and studied voice both here and abroad. She was a dramatic soprano with the Buffalo Symphony Orchestra in 1923. While in Buffalo, Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Chromatic Club and Les Amis de la France. Her father, John Harwood, Lancaster, also survives.
