  • RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The passing of Mose Hill, Sr., of Rosebud on May 6, 1997, at the age of 88, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed Texan; and
         WHEREAS, A native of New Waverly, he was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mose Hill on August 15, 1908, and was graduated from Wilson White High School in Rosebud; he earned distinction as the first black police officer to serve in Rosebud, and he rose through the department's ranks to become a police deputy; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his fine career in law enforcement, he was also well regarded as a businessman and rancher; a former employee of the Oil Mill and the Temple Auction Barn, he established a rendering business that served the people of Central Texas for 30 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hill led a full life and consistently made time in his schedule to enjoy his favorite pastimes, which included attending and participating in rodeos, and he was a familiar sight at community parades, riding horseback while carrying the country's flag; and
         WHEREAS, Mose Hill, Sr., touched the lives of many people during his years on this earth, and though his special presence will be deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mose Hill, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife, Bernice Hill; to his daughters, Dr. Barbara L. Hill Elliott and Ernestine Hill-Warren; to his sons-in-law, Edward Smith and Larry Goffney; to his sister, Clara Shields; to his grandchildren, Kathy Kaigler Ransom, Deborah E. Goffney, Wayne Steven Smith, Charlotte Denise Smith Stevens, and Flora Lynn Elliott Davis; to his great-grandchildren, TaBorah Goffney, L. J. Goffney, Tracy Stevens, Diedra Smith, and Rachel Lynn Davis; and to his many other friends and relatives; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mose Hill, Sr.
         H.R. No. 1365 was unanimously adopted by a rising vote of the House on June 2, 1997.
