- Research Note: It is an educated guesss that his given name was John, for his paternal grandfather. Also, his second son was named John, the first named after Margaret's father Singleton.
- He married Margaret Augusta Williams, daughter of Singleton Williams and Margaret A. (?), circa 1841.
- It may or may not be significant that there is a marriage bond recorded in Autauga County on 3 August 1841 between John B. Mitchell and Laura L. Williams, and marriage recorded on the 5th between John E. Mitchell and Laura L. Williams in Montgomery County, with Wm Carey Crane, MG, officiating.
- Unknown Mitchell died circa 1848.
- His wife Margaret Augusta Williams became a widow at his death.
