- The following appeared on 11 June 1940 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Charles L. O'Connor, 57, referee in the bureau of workmen's compensation for the last fifteen years, died 5:20 p. m. yesterday in General Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital May 18th and two weeks ago submitted to a thyroid operation.
Born in Buffalo July 22, 1882, Mr. O'Connor attended School 52, Annuncuation School and St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. He was employed as a mechanic by the International Railway Company for about five years before entering public service as a deputy state fire marshal during the administration of Governor John A. Dix. He served for two years as secretary to Carl Sherman while the latter was state attorney general, relinquishing that post to join the compensation bureau of the state department of labor as referee.
Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife, the former Mary Frances Bork; and two sons, Eugene M., Niagara Falls, and Edwin G., Brocton. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at his home, 155 Fordham Drive, and at 10 o'clock in Holy Spirit Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. - Mary Frances Bork died on 18 April 1943 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, at 1500 Delaware.
