  • Johann Philipp Rank and Anna Maria Gluck appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Saint Anthony, Hennepin County, Minnesota, enumerated next to brewer Gottlip Gleuik, age 31, and his family -- possibly Mary's brother.. Other members of the household included Edward Rank. Also in the household was Baden-born John G. Rank, age 4, whose origins are not yet known.
  • Johann Philipp Rank and Anna Maria Gluck appeared in the Minnesota state census of 1 June 1865 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Other members of the household included Edward Rank, John P. Rank, Louisa Rank and Katie Rank. Apparently there was an earlier child named Lewiss born before the 1865 census, and died before the birth of son Louis about 1867.
  • Johann Philipp Rank and Anna Maria Gluck, appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Saint Anthony, Minnesota. Other members of the household included Edward Rank, John P. Rank, Henry J. Rank, Louis Rank, Louisa Rank, Katie Rank and Mary Anna Rank. Also in the household was one female domestic servant.
  • John P. Rank, a native of Germany, was born in 1829. He came to the United States in 1843, and remained eleven years with his parents on a farm in Canada. In 1854, he came to Minneapolis and worked in the woods one winter, the year following engaged in the grocery business. In 1863, he bought a building in which he kept saloon until it burned in 1868. He erected a new building on that site, and in 1874 again opened a saloon where he now is. He married Miss Mary Gluck in 1859, Edward, John, Louisa, Kate, Henry, Louis, Anna, Frederick and Otto, are the children.
