- The following appeared on 21 February 1949 in the Oswego Palladium-Times: Edward P. Kenific, 86, life-long resident of Oswego, and during a period of 30 years in the office of the City Chamberlain, City Hall, widely known to thousands of taxpayers for his never-failing courtesy and kindliness, died Sunday night at his residence, 220 West Seventh Street, after a lingering illness. In the late years he had been assistant secretary-treasurer and accountant of Frederic Conde, Inc., until failing health halted his business activities.
Born in Oswego, October 7, 1862, he was a son of James and Mary Scannell Kenific, and throughout his life, he maintained a keen interest in the city and its people. An amateur photographer in his later years, he delighted to show, by contrasting the old with the new, the many advances the community had made in a life-time in which he established repute for high integrity and citizenship value.
He was an accountant who, while in city employ, made himself familiar with every aspect of the city's fiscal affairs and he contributed much to existing systems of accounting in use in the city offices.
He was a devout member of St. Mary's Church, and a member of its Holy Name and other societies, and was for many years a member of Oswego Council, No. 227, Knights of Columbus, and of the Fourth Degree of that order, holding offices in those organizations on many occasions, in years of his greater activity.
He married Miss Elizabeth M. O'Connor of Oswego, in 1890, and is survived by her, and by one daughter, Miss Mary E. Kenific, Oswego; and by five sons, James F. , Buffalo; Joseph A., Niagara Falls; the Rev. Edward P., Pulaski; John T., Lockport; and Francis A. Kenific, Oswego. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at his late residence and 10 o'clock in St. Mary's Church where a solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated. Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery.
