         He was a resident of Secor road, Mahopac, for 18 years. Before that he resided in Yonkers and Brooklyn.
         He was married April 17, 1913, in Berlin, Germany to Elizabeth Menjes [sic] Lips, who passed away in 1963.
         The deceased was born December 21, 1878 in New York city, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hermann Lips.
         Mr. Lips was educated in schools in Brooklyn. He attended the Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn and the University of Berlin, where he received his Ph.D. in chemistry.
         Three children, two sons, Herman A. of Ossining and Heinz A. of Wilmington, Delaware; one daughter, Mrs. Marie L. Sykes, of Oswego and 15 grandchildren survive.
         He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Mahopac Falls.
         Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 11 a.m. Rev. Charles Schaum, pastor of the First Presbyterian church will officiate.
         Funeral arrangements were by the Cargain Funeral Home, Carmel.
