He transferred a few months later to Company B, New York 173rd Infantry, and mustered out on 28 November 1863. On 29 January 1864, he enlisted in New York City as a private in Company F, 48th New York Infantry Regiment, and was promoted to full corporal on 7 June 1865. He mustered out on 1 September 1865 at Raleigh, North Carolina.

Other members of the household included George Edward Lepine and Justus W. Lepine. Also in the household is William H. Lepine, age 13, likely the same child found in Elizabeth Lepine's household in 1860, and Kate and Esther Martin, probably nieces of Rebecca. [Requires further research, particularly since it is possible that Rebecca was enumerated as "May Lepine" in the household in 1860.]
