  • The following appeared on 16 January 1964 in [The Wellsboro Gazette: Bohnerts Celebrate Golden Anniversary. It was a cold frosty morning, fifty years ago when Preston Bohnert and Alma Emmick left their respective homes to start the very first part of the trip that was to launch them into a sea of matrimony. A little snow was on the ground but not enough for a sleigh so a buggy was used. /P/ The date was December 24th, 1913. The first step was six miles south of Morris where in the Methodist parsonage at Blackwell Station (now Blackwell), the Rev. Charles Sautter performed the marriage ceremony. /P/ Afterward, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Bohnert took the train out of Blackwell toward Jersey Shore and started on their wedding trip. Upon their return, they set up housekeeping in Morris and lived in this area until 1942 when they moved to Earlville, N. Y. /P/ During the 29 years they lived here, 9 children were born to them, four sons and five daughters. /P/ All nine children were present at their parents Golden Wedding reception held at the Lorenton Grange Hall last Saturday evening December 21st. /P/ Two children are living in the area. The oldest son, Delos, lives near the Grange hall. A daughter, Marian, now Mrs. Paul Witt lives near Nauvoo. Mr. Witt acted as master of ceremonies at the reception. /P/ Three children came from Arizona to honor their parents on this occasion. Daughter Mildred, now Mrs. Clifton Comstock, and son Raymond came from Dragoon; daughter Margaret, now Mrs. Paul Kriner from Benson. /P/ The other four children came from New York State. Daughter Eleanor now Mrs. Alden Deming came from Utica; sons, Eugene and Harold and daughter Beverly, now Mrs. Ulric Shattuck all live at Earlsville. Mr. Shattuck and the children did not accompany Beverly the youngest daughter, the spouses of the other eight and some of the children travelled here for this memorial occasion. /P/ The Bohnerts, besides the nine children have thirty-five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. /P/ The grange hall was beautifully decorated with gold and white crepe paper and golden bells. A small Christmas tree with lights stood at one end of the room. At the other, was the refreshment table presided over by children and grandchildren. /P/ One hundred guests attended. Mr. Paul Witt, acting as Master of Ceremonies introduced the youngest Bohnert present. She is nine weeks old, Pattie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bohnert of RD 1. /P/ After spending a couple of days in this vicinity the family left for the Bohnerts' home in Earlville where Open House was to be held on Tuesday, December 24th for the friends and neighbors the Bohnerts have lived among during the past twenty one years. /P/ After spending Christmas all together, Mr. and Mrs. Bohnert accompanied their children to Arizona to spend the winter. /P/ This was the first time during the past twenty one years that all nine children were together with their parents.

  • The following appeared on 18 January 1968 in The Wellsboro Gazette: Funeral services were held on Sunday for Preston Bohnert of Earlville, a former resident of Morris who died at a hospital in Earlville on January 10th, following an extended illness. /P/ Mr. Bohnert was a retired farmer and lumberman and was well known in the area. Attending the funeral from Blossburg were Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Bohnert of Covington and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Bohnert of State College, Mrs. Mabel Comstock, Mrs. Loretta Thomas, Joseph Bohnert, Mrs. Elizabeth Guy and Mrs. Laura Thompson all of Morris, Mrs. Peggy Butters and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Friese of Cogan Station, and Mrs. Dora Sanza of Wellsboro. /P/ Mr. Bohnert is survived by his wife, the former Alma Emmick, and several children.
