Mary Jane Redfield

- Mary Jane Redfield was born in September 1820 in Rome, Oneida County, New York.
- She married Samuel Mott Stuart on 11 July 1842 in Lodi (later Gowanda), Cattaraugus County, New York.
- The following appeared on late spring 1892 in The Buffalo Morning Express: A number of Buffalo people went to Hamburg on Monday evening to assist in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Stuart. Over 300 invitations were issued for the celebration. The house was decorated with plants and flowers. The dining-room was especially pretty: strings of simlax were suspended from the ceiling and caught at the corners of the tables by bows of yellow ribbon, a center-piece of Feria roses enhancing the effect. Mrs. Stuart received in the parlor, assisted by her four daughters, Mrs. Homer Andrews of New York, Mrs. F. W. Constantine of Buffalo, Mrs. S. W. Stuart of Hamburg and Mrs. R. R. Stuart of Syracuse. Mrs. C. C. Haviland and Mrs. W. H. Stuart poured tea and and coffee. They were assisted in the evening by Miss Constantine, Miss Kinnie, Miss Fosic and Miss Oakley of Hamburg, Miss Titus and Miss Dart of Buffalo. Two poems written for the occasion, one by W. H. Stuart of Gawanda and the other by Mrs. Kirby of Allegheny City, Pa., were read by Miss Dart. The presents were beautiful and numerous. Among the guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Stuart and son, Mrs. V. B. Chase of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stuart and Mrs. Blackney of Gowanda; Mrs. Cornelia Wilson of Philadelphia; Mrs. and Miss Litchfield of Jackson, Mich; Judge Robert C. Titus and Miss Titus, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Rehm, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sprague, Mr. and Mrs. Keyes, Miss Alice Wilson, Miss B. M. Adams, Miss Mattie Belle Dart, Mr. J. L. Harwood, Mr. Henry Werner and Mr. Otto Ring of Buffalo.

- The following appeared on 6 August 1904 in The Syracuse Journal: Mr. and Mrs. Russell R. Stuart have been called to Hamburg, 12 miles from Buffalo, on account of the death of Mr. Stuart's mother, Mrs. Samuel M. Stuart, which occurred yesterday, aged about 83 years. Besides her husband she leaves four children, Mrs. Homer A. Andrews of this city, Mrs. Jennie Constantine of Buffalo, Samuel W. Stuart of Hamburg and Russell R. Stuart of this city. /P/ The funeral will be held tomorrow at Hamburg. /P/ Mrs. Stuart was born in Rome, Oneida county. Her maiden name was Rodfield. At the age of 9 she came with her parents from Rome to the village of Lodi, now Gowanda, where she was married to Mr. Stuart on July 11, 1842. In 1848 they removed to Water Valley, in the town of Hamburg. Mrs. Stuart had always been prominent in the social circles of Hamburg. She was always prominent in Christian works, having united with her husband as members of the First Baptist church of Hamburg in 1852, more than a half a century ago.
