  • The following appeared on 1 August 1939 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Col. and Mrs. W. G. Styer, who have been the guests of friends in Pittsburgh, Pa., return today to the home of Mrs. Styer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Haeberle, of South avenue, and will remain there until the latter part of the week before taking a cruise with friends. Col. and Mrs. Styer are from the Panama Canal Zone. . . . Col. and Mrs. W. G. Styer, of Panama Canal Zone, who have been the guests of Mrs. Styer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Haeberle, of South avenue, were the guests of honor at a lovely summer picnic party given by Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Haeberle at their home, "The Cedars," Lewiston. Twenty-two guests were present at this delightful party.

         Brigadier General Henry Delp Styer, U. S. Army, retired, former commandant at Fort Niagara and officer in command of Allied troops in Siberia during World War I, died at his home in San Diego, Calif., last night at the age of 81.
         Widely known among older residents of Niagara Falls, General Styer was the father of Major General W. D. Styer, of Washington, D. C., whose wife is the former Miss Dorothea Haeberle, daughter of George C. Haeberle, of 927 South avenue, this city. The younger General Styer is now chief of staff of the Services Supply of the U. S. Army in Washington.
         Brigadier General Styer is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Wilkes Styer, of San Diego; a second son, Charles W. Styer, an officer in the U. S. Navy, and a daughter, Mrs. Hearst, wife of a U. S. naval officer.
         Born in Sellersville, Pa., General Styer graduated from the West Point Military academy as a lieutenant in 1884. He first came to Fort Niagara as a first lieutenant of the Thirteenth Regiment in 1891. In 1898 he accompanied his regiment as quartermaster to the Philippines and while there was credited with the capture of a notorious rebel leader, Vincent del Prado, who was executed.
         After his return from the tropics as a captain, he was military instructor at an agricultural college in Utah and returned to Fort Niagara as a major in the Twenty-ninth Regiment about 1909. Subsequently he became commandant at the post and did much to advance its development during those years.
         During the first World war he was entrusted with the big job of leading the Allied campaign in Siberia, an accomplishment which won him high commendation. Retired for a number of years, he has been residing in San Diego.

Zeitel of Lewiston N.Y. Survived by his mother, Mrs. George C. Haeberle, this city, and a brother, George Haeberle, Jr. of Lewiston; 2 sisters, Mrs. W. D. Styer of Coronado, Calif., and Mrs. O. N. Thompson, Palo Alto, Calif. Also survived by one grandchild. Funeral service at the Cornell and Daggett Chapel, 1517 Main St., Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1958 at 2 p.m., the Rev. Francis K. Wagshal officiating. Interment, Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • The following appeared on 3 March 1963 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Mrs. Margaret F. Haeberle, 96, a member of one of this city's most prominent families, died Saturday (March 2, 1963) at her home, 3061 Lewiston Road, after a long illness.
         She was the widow of George C. Haeberle who died in 1946. Mr. Haeberle operated the Haeberle Lumber Co. and Haeberle Realty Co. The latter firm owns the Haeberle Plaza.
         Born in Niagara Falls, Mrs. Haeberle was a life-long resident. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the church's Martha Society.
         She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wilhelm Styer, Coronado, Calif., and Mrs. Olin Thompson, Palo Alto, Calif., and a son, George C. Haeberle Jr. of Lewiston.
         In addition, five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive.
         A private funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cornell and Daggett Funeral Home. Rev. Milan Slahor, pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Lewiston, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
         The family said contributions to the American Heart Fund and the Zion Lutheran Memorial will be acceptable.

         Mrs. Charlotte Haeberle Thompson, 66, widow of Gen. Orin Thompson, died Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif., where she had lived since 1948.
         Mrs. Thompson was born in Niagara Falls, daughter of the late George C. and Margaret Haeberle, pioneer residents. Her husband served the U. S. Army with distinction in both World War I and World War II, retiring with the rank of brigadier general in 1947.
         Mrs. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Patch, Palo Alto; a son, Lt. Col. Alfred Thompson, Menlo Park, Calif., and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, George Haeberle Jr., Niagara Falls, and a sister, Mrs. W. D. Styer, Coronado, Calif. Another brother was the late Walter Haeberle, Niagara Falls.
         Funeral services will be held in California Tuesday with burial in the Presidio Cemetery, San Francisco. Donations to the American Cancer Society will be acceptable as memorial Tributes.

         George Haeberle, 66, of 151 Buffalo Ave., president of the former Haeberle Lumber Co., died in Memorial Hospital today (Oct. 18, 1966) after a long illness.
         Mr. Haeberle, a native of this city, also was president of the Haeberle Realty Corp. and the Haeberle Paint and Builders Supply Co.
         In addition, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, a former member of the Church Council, a member of the Niagara Falls Country Club, the Niagara Club, the Advisory Board of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co., the board of directors of the Travelers Aid Society and secretary of the Oakwood Cemetery Association.
         Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; two sons, George of Lewiston and Peter of this city; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Styer of Coronado, Calif.
         Mr. Haeberle was the brother of the late Walter G. Haeberle and Mrs. Charlotte Thompson.
         Friends may call at the Cornell and Daggett Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A private family memorial service will be conducted in the funeral chapel Wednesday morning by Rev. Paul R. Swank. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to charities will be acceptable as tributes, the family said.
