- James Laurie Craig and Agnes Howat appeared in the British census of 6 June 1841 in Gananhill, Parish of Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland.

- James Laurie Craig died between 1845 and 1854 based on his absence from the 1861 census and also from statutory death records commencing 1855.
- Agnes Howat became a widow at his death.
- Research Note: It is an educated guess that James Laurie Craig was a brother of Jean Craig. Although the connection has not yet been established, it seems significant that two of Jean Craig's children (Thomas and Margaret) had sons named variations of James Laurie, and grandson James L. Wilson had a son James Laurie Craig Wilson.
