Cpl. Frederick A. Cheesman, 27, brother of Mrs. Herbert L. Wilson, 389 East Ave., was wounded in action Oct. 14 and after 9 days in a hospital returned to duty. He was reported missing by the War Department, which today notified relatives of his death.
The former Buffalo man, who had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and who visited Lockport on his furloughs before going overseas, had been a member of the 174th for 9 years. A brother, Pfc. Edward G. Cheesman, now at Camp Maxey, Tex., was employed at Thing's shoe store.
Cpl. Cheesman was married and his wife, Mrs. Viona Cheesman lives at 11 Arnold Place, Buffalo. A sister, Mrs. Gordon Sell, lives at 34 Tremond St., Buffalo. The Purple Heart awarded to Cpl. Cheesman has been forwarded to his wife.
