- The following appeared on 16 October 1941 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: [Died] At Buffalo, Oct. 16, 1941, Fred Leonard Young of 196 Crescent Ave., Buffalo; husband of Dorothy, father of Mary Louise, both of Buffalo; son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Edward Bale of 1612 Weston Ave; brother of mrs. Hilda Martin of this city. Funeral announcements later.
- The following appeared on 17 April 1943 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Mrs. Fred L. Young, of Tenth street, announces the engagement of her daughter, Mary Louise, to Staff Sergeant Hardell L. Shipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Shipp, of Corinth, W. Va. Miss Young, a former resident of Chicago, Ill., is a graduate of the Chicago School of Expression and Dramatic Art. Sergeant Shipp is stationed in St. Petersburg, Fla., where the young couple will make their home after their marriage in the early summer.
- The following appeared on 13 November 1943 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Mrs. Harold [sic] Shipp, the former Miss Mary Louise Young, of Tenth street, is heard on the SWUN radio station in St. Petersburg, Fla., with a group of stock players. Mrs. Shipp is a graduate of the Chicago School of Expression. She is the daughter of Mrs. Fred L. Young and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Bale, of 1622 Weston avenue, this city.
