- Edward J. Harness was born on 29 June 1924 in New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York.
- He married Mildred M. Rushton, daughter of George Aldous Rushton and Mary E. Rhodes, on 6 March 1954 in Snyder, Erie County, New York, at Christ Methodist Church.
- The following appeared on 10 March 1954 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: Miss Mildred M. Rushton was united in marriage to Mr. Edward J. Harness at Christ Methodist Church, Snyder, on Saturday. the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Rushton, Monteagle St., this city, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harness, New Rochelle.
The Rev. G. Alty performed the double ring ceremony before the altar on which were vases of white gladioli, snap dragons, pompons and daisies. Miss Clella Dorrance, Kenmore, at the organ, provided the musical background.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a sleeveless turquoise embroidered taffeta street-length dress, designed in princess style. She wore matching long lace mitts and a tiara with a veil draped over the back of her head. She carried a bouquet of white camelias.
The maid-of-honor, Miss Rachel Barratt, Buffalo, was atrired in a dusty rose taffeta dress with lace trim, long matching lace mitts and a tiara. She carried a bouquet of yellow shaggy pompoms.
Mr. Harness had his brother, Mr. John L. Harness, as his best man. Mr. Clarence Wilson, Snyder, seated the guests at the ceremony.
The bride's mother chose a navy blue ensemble and the mother of the bridegroom wore navy blue with white accessories. Each mother wore a corsage of white camelias.
After the ceremony, the reception was held in the church parlors.
For going away, the bride wore a toast colored costume with rhinestone trim and harmonizing accessories and corsage. After a two week wedding trip to the Pocono Mountains and New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Harness will be at home at 1 Lincoln Rd., Snyder. - Edward J. Harness became a widower at the 5 August 1993 death of his wife Mildred M. Rushton.
- Edward J. Harness died on 4 December 1993 at age 69 in St. Louis, Missouri.
- He was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis County, Missouri.
