She taught in the Richmond County Schools for over 50 years before retiring. /P/ Survivors include one brother, Dr. Theodore Yates of Atlanta, and one sister, Maj. Florence M. Yates of Atlanta.

Yates of the Salvation Army, a former resident of Augusta who lived in Atlanta, Ga., died Thursday in a Columbia, S.C., hospital following an extended illness. /P/ Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Salvation Army Citadel here with Major Howard Lynch officiating assisted by Major Ernest Wixon. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. /P/ She and her sister, Miss Gwendoline M. Yates, who died May 2, 1971, had a home at 2256 Central Ave. Major Yates was a native of Lawrence, Mass., and had been an officer in the Salvation Army 30 years before retirement 10 years ago. Her last appointment was territorial headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. /P/ Survivors include her brother, Dr. Theodore Yates of Columbia, S.C; three nephews, Dr. Jack Rheney of Orangeburg, S.C., Dr. Theodore B. Rheney of Atlanta and James K. Yates of San Francisco, Calif; and a niece, Dr. Christina Parr of Columbia. /P/ Friends may call at Platt's Funeral Home or at the residence, 2256 Central Ave.
