- Frederick J. Hartwig and Augusta Schröder appeared in the US federal census of 1 January 1920 in Medford, Taylor County, Wisconsin. Other members of the household included Fredericka M. Hartwig, Clara W. Fredericka Hartwig, Rosa Lydia Hartwig, Theodore C. Hartwig, Edna M. Hartwig and Paul Herman Hartwig.
- She was a public school teacher, according to the 1920 census.
- The following appeared on 12 January 1922 in the Taylor County Star-News: Mrs. Fred J. Hartwig died Monday at her home here, at the age of sixty. Burial took place this afternoon in Evergreen cemetery, following services at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Fr. Gensichen. Mrs. Hartwig, nee Augusta Schroder, was born August 29th, 1861, in Schwanberg, Germany. At the age of three she was brought by her parents to the United States and the family settled at Wolcottsville, New York. She was married February 25th, 1884, and the couple came to Medford the same year. She has lived here ever since. Nine [sic] children were born to them, as follows: Agnes (Mrs. G. Ruesch), Clara (Mrs. Russell Casey) who died last June; Walter H. of Detroit, Mich; Theo. C. of Medford; Martha (Mrs. Cassius Allemang) of Madison; Lydia of Madison; Hermiene (Mrs. Lloyd Comeau) of Medford; Esther, who died in 1910; Edna, Frieda, and Paul of Medford. Mrs. Hartwig was a charter member of the ladies' Aid Society of the St. Pau Lutheran Church and held the office of treasurer in same for over thirty years. All of the children are here for the funeral.
