He was born on Oct. 23, 1912, in Wheeling W.Va., the son of Anthony and Anna (Mruz) Turanski. On Aug. 20, 1935, in Benzonia, he married Jean Brauer; she preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 1996.
Arthur owned and operated Magneto Sales and Service for 30 years, retiring in 1968. He was a longtime summer resident of Benzie County, and became a permanent resident in 1991.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Benzonia.
Arthur had a special friend, Don Boch, who had been his senior companion for the past couple of years. He was an avid chess player, and he and Don played several games every Thursday. Arthur also enjoyed his time at the casino and doing jigsaw puzzles with his daughters.
Arthur is survived by his son, Rev. Ted (Lynette) Turanski of Kalkaska; two daughters, Ilse (Lester) Bair of Beulah, and Susan (Duane) Evans of Benzonia; six grandchildren; and a brother, William of Toledo, Ohio. /P/ Arthur had a special place in his heart for his four caregivers, Vicki Hanson, Nikki Hanson, Maya Medina and his beloved granddaughter, Sheridan Sage, who has been the light of his life.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ted. /P/ Friends may call on Saturday, May 1, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Benzonia Chapel McElduff Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2004, from Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Benzonia Township Cemetery.
