- The following appeared on 31 March 1960 in the Eagle Rock Sentinel: It was 38 years ago in the month of June [1922] that a small band of Seventh Day Adventists pitched a large tent at the northwest corner of Eagle Rock Blvd. and Colorado.
Heretofore the group had met above a pool hall in the center of Eagle Rock, holding Sabbath morning . school. Tent meetings were a very popular form of gathering in the early Twenties, and passersby stopped, listened and learned. In short time the Adventists found that their congregation had grown to the point where a church building was not only feasible, but necessary.
As the fall weather came on, the group met at the Women’s Twentieth Century Club, and were soon congregating in a large wooden tabernacle just east of the present site.
Like many a church in its early years the Adventists made another move, this time to the hall now occupied by the Assembly of God at 5050 Eagle Rock Blvd. Here Elder Prout and his wife, Lona Brosi, Bible instructors, began a concerted drive to make the new church a reality.
With lumber from the old tabernacle building, supplemented with funds raised by the pastor and his finance committee, the first real church building was completed on Sept. 6, 1924.
As spacious as that first church had seemed in 1924, by the time 30 years had gone by, the demand for a larger edifice was evident and on Christmas Day, 1954 work began on the present building at 2239 Merton Ave. . . . - She married Fred Wiggo Mathisen, son of K. L. Mathisen and Gunda (?), on 25 September 1925 in Monrovia, Los Angeles County, California, by license dated the 24th, with Rev. J. W. McConiss, Seventh-day Adventist church minister, officiating.
