Short's: Mrs. Robert Wood of Potsdam, Mrs. Samuel Young of Wad., Mrs. Betsey Pringle and Mrs. Jane Packard of Chipman, Mrs. J. W. Short and Mrs. Ellen Elliott; also, there are present Mrs. Wood's daughter, Mrs. Dr. Wm. Reynolds and her daughter, Miss Lorene, and Mr. Young of Wad. The six sisters are daughters of the late Thomas and Betsey Blythe of Wad. and held their last reunion in Potsdam four years ago.

  • The following appeared on 22 August 1913 in the Postdam Herald-Recorder: In the death of Robert Wood, which occurred at his home on Friday afternoon last, Potsdam lost one of its oldest and best known citizens. Mr. Wood's health had been failing for some time, the immediate cause of his death was pneumonia. [:CR;]      Mr. Wood was born in Jedburgh, Scotland, Dec. 26, 1832 and came to this country in 1853. He settled in Waddington engaging in the milling business which he continued at that place until 1877 when he sold out and located in Potsdam, purchasing the grist mill property which he successfully conducted until his retirement in 1904. [:CR;]      In 1857 he was united in marriage to Isabel Blythe of Waddington, who survives him, together with two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Reynolds and Mrs. B. T. Scott of Potsdam and one son, W. B. Wood of Adams, N. Y. [:CR;]      Mr. Wood was a life long and devoted member of the Presbyterian church and always active in its and other good works. [:CR;]      He was one of the influlential business men of Potsdam and his advice in business matters was much sought and highly prized. [:CR;]      Funeral services were held at the house Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. F. B. Cowan officiating, with interment in Bayside.

  • The following appeared on 10 April 1918 in the Courier & Freeman: Mrs. Isabella Blythe Wood, widow of the late Robert Wood, died early Wednesday morning at her home in Main street. Mrs. Wood had been in her usual health the previous evening and had prepared for bed as usual. She was ill but an hour or so before death. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Rev. H. V. Frelick officiating, and the body was placed in Bayside.
         Mrs. Wood was born in Waddington March 11, 1834. Her early life was spent there. She married Mr. Wood in 1857 and came to Potsdam twenty years later. Mr. Wood was a well known business man of this village, operating the stone gristmill on Maple street for some years.
         Mrs. Wood was a woman of culture and refinement, and her death will be mourned by a large circle of friends, both young and old. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Reynolds and Mrs. B. T. Scott, both of this village, and by one son, William B. Wood of Adams. Four grandchildren also survive.
