- The following appeared on 13 October 1909 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: A very pretty wedding was celebrated yesterday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Gailer, No. 100 High street, Lockport, when their sister, Miss Edith M. Gailer of New York, was united in marriage to Mr. John a. Mayle of this city. To the strains of "Lohengrin," played by a harp orchestra, the bridal couple took their places before a bank of palms where awaited them the Reverend W. A. Babbitt, former pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lockport, and the Reverend Louis Mayle of Rochester, a brother of the groom. The bride and groom were unattended. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Edward R. Gailer.
The bride wore a charming gown of Paquin Alice blue, with large white hat to match, trimmed with an immense white willow plume and gilt rose. A supper followed the ceremony for 24 guests, all relatives. The table decorations were pink and white and smilax adorned the chandelier, stretching to a huge centerpiece of pink roses. Mr. and Mrs. Mayle left last evening for a bridal trip to Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, Pa., and New York City, and on their return will reside in this city. Among the out-of-town guests were the Revend and Mrs. Louis Mayle and family of Rochester, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mayle, Miss Katherine Mayle and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Mayle of this city. - John A. Mayle and Edith M. Gailer appeared in the US federal census of 15 April 1910 in Niagara, Niagara County, New York, at Military Road. Other members of the household included John C. Mayle, Magdalena Reichoff and Katherine C. Mayle.

- The following appeared on 12 January 1944 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: John A. Mayle, 75 years old, a lifelong resident and civic and church leader in the town of Niagara, died yesterday at Mt. St. Mary's hospital after an illness of only two days with pneumonia, as noted in the Gazette yeserday.
Mr. Mayle was born in the Mayle homestead in the Lockport road on April 20, 1868, a son of the late John C. Mayle and Magdalena Reichoff, pioneer settlers of that district. He had resided his entire life in the town of Niagara, where his passing will be mourned by a wide circle of friends.
At various times he had served the town as assessor, justice of the peace, tax collector and town clerk. He had served as town clerk for 12 years and held that post at the time of his death.
He was an active worker in the Niagara United Presbyterian church, where he was an elder and superintendent of the Sunday school. By trade Mr. Mayle was a wagon-maker of the old school and, despite transportation changes, had continued in business in the Lockport road, filling a vital need for farmers throughout that part of the county.
Mr. Mayle is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Mayle, an active leader in women's affairs in the town; one brother, Martin Mayle, and one sister, Mrs. Katharine Pletcher, all of the town of Niagara. Another brother, the Rev. Louis F. Mayle, well known minister, died a few years ago.
The body will lie in state at the Niagara United Presbyterian church, Lockport and Military roads, on Friday, January 14, from noon until 2 p. m., when funeral services will be held at the church. The Rev. William Harper will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot, Memorial Park cemetery. - Edith M. Gailer died on 28 May 1960 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York, at Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lockport, she resided in the Town of Niagara most of her life. She succeeded her husband as town clerk.
Mrs. Mayle taught in several New York State schools, including Lockport, New York City, Newfane, and the Town of Niagara. She taught music at the Nevada Avenue School and was the truant officer for the Town of Niagara for some time.
Active in civic affairs, Mrs. Mayle was past president of the Ladies Rural Club; past president of the New England Women's Club; member of the Niagara United Presbyterian Church and past president of its womenh's association and choir director at the Pierce Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Niagara United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a brother, Edward Gailer of Stonybrook, L.I., N.Y.
Friends may call at the Bell Funeral Home from 12 noon Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Niagara United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William J. Devine will officiate.
Burial will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park.
