  • The following appeared on 24 June 2014 in The Daily Sentinel: Jim Points, 76, of Battlement Mesa, Colorado left us unexpectedly on Saturday, June 14, 2014.
James Phillip Points, or as some would call him, Jim, Jimmy or J.P., was born in Rushville, Nebraska on December 26, 1937, to the late Wilson Points and Zella Kearney Points. He was also predeceased by his very special sister, Betty Points. He graduated from Ouray High School in 1955.
Jim lived in Ouray most of his life until he moved to Battlement Mesa, Colorado with his wife of 24 years, Vicky Points, in 1990. He and Vicky owned a small business there for many years. However, most people know Jim from his years as a hard rock miner and his time as the Manager of the Camp Bird Mine in Ouray, Colorado. Mining was a big part of Jim's life but he also worked in the oil industry in the Rifle, Colorado area for the last five years.
Jim was involved with the B.P.O.E. and the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department. He loved his family, friends, golfing and was an avid rock collector. He was also a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Jim is survived by his wife, Vicky; his two daughters, Kim Clark (Butch) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Krista Ficco (Dan) of Ouray, Colorado; two step-daughters, Christina Danley Miller (Bert) of Ouray, Colorado, and Shelly Carrell (Daniel) of Bullard, Texas. He is also survived by Kim and Krista's mother, Joan Points, of Montrose, Colorado. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren ranging in age from brand new to 37.
No services will be held but the family is planning a celebration of Jim's life in late August or early September.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Jim then you know that his loved ones and friends who passed before him are waiting for him with open arms. Those of us here will miss him every day but will always have that special part of JP in our hearts.
