He married a daughter of Dr. J. L. Stokes of the Upper South Carolina Conference. He was a man who made many friends, who sincerely mourn his end. He was from his youth a member of the Church. - Clare Stokes died on 24 March 1967 at age 88 in Greer, Greenville County, South Carolina, at Roger Huntington Nursing Home.
