- He married Bertha C. Schembs, daughter of Johann Adam Schembs and Katherine Hagerer, circa 1933.
- Hawley F. Scott and Bertha C. Schembs appeared in the US federal census of 1 April 1940 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, at 98 Elmer Avenue. Also in the household was Hawley's son Truman H. Scott (age 19). In 1935, they all were living in the same house.
- He was employed by the city as a dairy chemist, according to the 1940 census.
- Hawley F. Scott died on 15 December 1951.
- Bertha C. Schembs became a widow at his death.
- He was interred at Oakwood Cemetery, East Aurora, Erie County, New York.
- The following appeared on 17 December 1951 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Hawley F. Scott, 73, a chemist i the City Health Department for 37 years before he retired three years ago, died suddenly Saturday night in his home at 98 Elmer Ave.
Mr. Scott had been employed in the city milk and water laboratories. Before coming to Buffalo, he was a laboratory worker for the Cole and Fish Co. of East Aurora, butter manufacturers and wholesalers.
Born in Clay, N. Y., he was graduated from the Cazenovia Seminary and from Cornell University. He was a member of the Board of Deacons at Delaware Ave. Baptist Church and also belonged to Mystic Art Lodge of the Masons.
Mr. Scott remarried after the death of his first wife, the former Miss Ada Hudson, 18 years ago. Surviving him are his wife, the former Miss Bertha Schembs; two sons, Stewart S., an orchestra leader who has played at Hotel Statlerhere, and Truman H., of Kenmore, and a brother, Edwin W., of East Syracuse.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. at the residence, with the Rev. Robert N. Zearfoss, pastor of Delaware Ave. Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, East Aurora.
