- The following appeared on 21 April 1969 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Oliver E. Becker Jr., 43, Alden restaurateur and town assessor, died Sunday morning in his home, 1338 Exchange St., Village of Alden.
In 1963 Mr. Becker opened the Whistle Stop Inn at the Exchange St. address after two years as assistant menager of the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora. For 15 years beginning in 1946 he managed his father's tavern at William and Bailey in Buffalo.
The Alden Town Board appointed him assessor last October.
Active in service and fraternal activities, Mr. Becker was president of the Alden Kiwanis Club, member and immediate past president of the East Aurora-Orchard Park Shrine Club and member of Springville Lodge 351, F&AM; New York State Assessors Assn., Western New York Innkeepers Assn. and the American Legion's Alden Post 1377.
A lifelong Buffalo area resident, he formerly served in the Merchant Marine.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ona J. Schoembs; two sons, Oliver E. III and Douglas; two daughters, the Misses Diane and Donna Becker; his father, Oliver E. Becker of Buffalo; a sister, Miss Mildred Becker of Buffalo, and two brothers, Wilfrid of Hamburg and Sherwood of Buffalo.
A funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Alden Presbyterian Church, Broadway and Crittenden Rd., will be followed by burial in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, Niagara County.
