  • The following appeared on 3 November 1916 in The Montgomery Advertiser: Funeral services of John C. Farris, who died in Austin, Texas, last Monday, were held from the residence of his cousin, T. R. Farris, No. 322 North McDonough street, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. E. E. Cobbs, rector of St. John's Episcopal church, officiated.
         The pall bearers were Mack Oliver, Harvey Brown, Dr. M. L. Wood, John Randolph, Warren Reese and Ed. Rhodes.
         Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.
         Mr. Farris was born in Montgomery in 1855 and was the son of William B. Farris and his wife, Susan Mary Campbell Farris. He was educated at the private school for boys conducted by Mr. Thomas in this city. His parents died when he was a boy, and he was reared by his uncle, the late Colonel Robert C. Farris, and his wife, of Montgomery.
         When about thirty years of age he left Montgomery, where he was associated with the firm of G. L. Worth, a local merchant, and went ot Chicago, where he entered the brokerage business until about eighteen months ago, when his health failed and he went to Austin, Texas, where he resided with his two sisters, Mrs. Clark C. Campbell and Miss Mary Jane Farris.
         Besides his two sisters of Austin, he is survived by one brother, William B. Farris of New York city, and several cousins, among them being Thomas R. Farris of Montgomery.
