"Al" Lewis, loving husband and brother, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 23, 1913 in Warren Connecticut to Catherine and Morris Henry Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bateman Lewis and sister Marion Maaz. Al is survived by his wife Ann Drosihn Lewis, his sister Margaret Zottola of Bedford Hills, NY, and his beloved dog Ranger. He graduated from Croton-on-Hudson High School in NY in 1931; roughnecked for Humble Oil from 1935-1936 in the East and West Texas and the Gulf Coast; worked in research at Bayway, NJ for Standard Oil Development; and received a BS degree in Petroleum Production Engineering in 1939 from the University of Texas at Austin. Al secured a number of patents as chemical engineer in the Tech Service Division of Esso (now Exxon); assisted in the dissemination of World War II petroleum products for US Naval operations; managed distribution of war supplies; and developed fuel additives for better burning qualities. He consulted with Caltex in supplying Europe; was President of Star Falcon, an independent supplier of crude; consulted in African gold mine drilling and in Texas and Louisiana in oil production operations; and developed the initial computerized trading system used in Europe and the US in the early 1970s for trading crude and product. Funeral services will be held in Denton, TX at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20 at Gateway Baptist Church, 2401 North Bell Avenue. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitations will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18 at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 North Locust, in Denton; and for Al and Ann's many friends in the Dallas area, on Monday, January 19 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Sparkman-Dickey Funeral Home, 17501 North Dallas Parkway.
