Meriwether, Joseph Nicholas Meriwether, Nancy Elizabeth Meriwether, Thomas Meriwether, Bird H. Meriwether, David Meriwether and Frances Meriwether.
  • Frank Valentine Meriwether died on 23 December 1862 at age 21 in Montgomery County, Alabama, in the Civil War.
  • He was interred at Meriwether Cemetery, Montgomery County, Alabama.
  • The following appeared on 25 February 1863 in The Montgomery Advertiser: Died in this county, on the 23rd. ult., Frank V. Meriwether, in the 22nd year of his age, leaving a wife and one child. The deceased was a son of Mr. Thomas Meriwether. At the time of his death, he was a member of Captain Troy's Company, Hilliard's Legion and was home on sick furlough. He was a most estimable citizen, a good soldier, a Christian hearted young man. Like most of our gallant youths, prompted by a patriotic desire to defend their country, he left a young and affectionate wife, to whom he had been wedded but a short time, and volunteered in the service of the Confederacy; and while in camps, from the exposure and hardships incident to a soldier's life, contracted the disease of which he died.
How sad, the reflection, that so many of our brave boys, who leave friends and luxurious homes in the full enjoyment of health, to fight for their native land, return to us, as was the case of instance, worn down by the withering hand of disease. Though it was not the fate of young Meriwether to fall upon the ensanguined field of battle, yet a grateful country will long cherish the virtues and patriotic devotion of him, who forsook the society of family and friends and comforts of home, and sacrificed his life in her cause. Upon his tomb may be inscribed, as a rich legacy upon his family: . . .
