  • The following appeared on 6 June 2004 in the Houston Chronicle: Helen Smith Sebastian went to be with the Lord on June 4th, 2004. She was a native Texan, who grew up in Goose Creek, now Baytown, before moving to Tomball when her father, a Humble (Exxon) employee, was transferred. At the age of 13, Helen lost her mother and the relationship with her 3 brothers and sister grew stronger through the years. Their caring family contributed to her, and her siblings, success. Her love was evident as she helped her younger brother battle Leukemia by donating her bone marrow for transplant, prior to his passing.
After she graduated, Helen moved to Houston, attended business school and married Jimmy Sebastian. The couple spent 27 happy years together in Wharton, Texas with their three children, Jim, George and Martha. She returned to Houston and was employed by the Houston Golf Association and oil tycoon, Cecil Hagen. She will be remembered as a strong, independent, giving, gracious and caring woman that could out dance most and had a better golf swing then many. Laughter sprung from her soul and was heard often.
Survivors include her children, George R. Sebastian of Wharton and Martha Sebastian of Sugar Land; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sebastian of Conroe; grandchildren, James H. Stavena, Jr. of San Francisco, John P. Sebastian of Conroe and Cash W. Sebastian of El Campo, their wives and six great- grandchildren.
