- Keziah Adams was born circa 1789 in Tennessee or posibly North Carolina.
- She married David Hogan circa 1819, possibly in Dickson or Maury County, Tennessee.
- David Hogan and Keziah Adams appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1830 in Marengo County, Alabama, and an unidentified male child under 5 years.
- On 3 January 1831 in Marengo County, Alabama, James H. Adams made a deed of gift in Marengo County to his sister Kezia Hogan, wife of David Hogan.
- Keziah Adams became a widow at the circa 1834 death of her husband David Hogan.
- She married John Shields on 7 January 1835 in Marengo County, Alabama.
- Keziah Adams appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Wilcox County, Alabama, in the large household of farmer Azariah Dumas, which includes also surnames Stafford and Powel.
- Research Note: If Keziah Adams and John Shields were married in 1835, why were they not enumerated together in the 1850 census?
- Keziah Adams appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Linden, Marengo County, Alabama, and appears in the 1860 Slave Schedule as the owner of ten slaves, occupying two slave houses. She is enumerated next to Benjamin Adams, probably her brother.
- Candidate for son of David & Keziah is James Hogan, born about 1830 in Alabama, found in the 1850 Marengo County census with wife Catharine. Apparently served in Company C, 12th Alabama Infantry, CSA, wounded at the battle of South Mountain on 14 September, and died of a gunshot wound as a prisoner of war in the USA General Hospital at Frederick, Maryland, on 3 October 1862. Buried Grave 82, Mt Olivet or Hospital Cemetery in Frederick. Captured at Antietam, Maryland, 17 September 1862. No effects.
- Research Note: It remains to be verified whether Keziah Adams, Nancy Adams, Benjamin Adams, James H. Adams and Felix Grundy Adams are children of Howell Collier Adams and Nancy Rayburn. Research is ongoing. It may be significant that Howell Collier Adams' sister (who first married Nancy Rayburn's brother Thomas) Rebecca Adams Rayburn Gainer ended up in Monroe County, Mississippi, very near to the Alabama counties where the Adams siblings settled.
- Research Note: Piecing together this generation of the Adams family is a work in progress. Connecting the Adams siblings Keziah, Nancy, Benjamin, James and Felix has involved a a close examination of others' family history records, family lore, census proximities, connections indicated by deeds, &c. A cooperative effort by some descendants of these likely siblings is under way, intent upon identifying new solid evidence of their relationships and discovering their Tennessee origins, looking particularly at Sevier County.
