George W. Reding

  • George W. Reding was born on 12 February 1825 in Tennessee probably Fayette County.
  • He married Betty Ann Neeley, daughter of John H. Neeley and Lila Dorinda Gaither Mize, circa 1844.
  • George W. Reding and Betty Ann Neeley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Hulda Jane Reding, William Henry Reding, Moses Graham and Hulda Reding. Also in the household were carpenter G. L. Passmore and farmers James H. and W. G. Strother.

  • On Thursday, 31 October 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sam, Peter & Jim work on shed timbers, Bob & King Hawling water & the rest picking out cotton at George Reding, picked 4339 lb." And on the following day, "All hands at the same work as yesterday, Picking out cotton for George Reding, 4134 lb and got the 1/4 for picking, making 2100 lb."
  • On 8 January 1856, Green Wood settled his account for blacksmith work done by Reding & Springston from May through December 1855.
  • George W. Reding and Betty Ann Neeley appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery PO, Montgomery County, Texas, enumerated next to George's brother James.. Other members of the household included William Henry Reding, Harriet Ann Reding, John J. Reding and Robert Lafayette Reding.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
  • On Friday, 27 November 1861, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sold Mr George Reding 3 Ewes at $12."
  • George W. Reding died on 18 October 1888 at age 63 in Grimes County, Texas.
  • His wife Betty Ann Neeley became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at Zion Methodist Cemetery, Iola, Grimes County, Texas.
