  • Edward L. Barnes appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Hancock County, Georgia. Other members of the household included John T. Barnes, Sarah W. Sanders, Sarah A. Barnes, Catherine Barnes, Martha Barnes and Nancy Finch.
  • On Friday, 16 November 1855, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Measured an acre of corn. Mr. John Barnes of Grimes and Mr. J. Campbell present. Shucked the corn and measured in a ham tierce. . . ."
  • James W. Barnes and Caroline Alice Greene appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Plantersville PO, Grimes County, Texas. Other members of the household included John T. Barnes, Eugenia C. Barnes, Zenobia H. Barnes, Mark S. Barnes, Thomas Barnes and Evelina Wood Barnes. Also in the household was Robert Barnes (age 18, born in Mississippi), probably a nephew.
