Edgar Roberts

  • Edgar Roberts was born on 16 April 1914 in Capitan, Lincoln County, New Mexico, at Brill Ranch, twin of Nell.
  • Sterling P. Roberts and Nancy Jane Beck appeared in the US federal census of 1 January 1920 in Spindle, Lincoln County, New Mexico. Other members of the household included Edgar Roberts, John Lonzo Nichols, Sterling W. Roberts, Lydia Roberts, Ruthia Roberts and Nellie Roberts.
  • Edgar Roberts registered for the draft on 16 October 1940 in Lincoln County, New Mexico, while living on Spindle Route in Capitan, and employed there by himself and his mother.
  • He married Mildred Johnston.
  • He enlisted as a private in the US Army on 19 August 1942, in San Francisco County, California. At the time of his enlistment he was a farm worker residing in Lincoln County, New Mexico, married. He was discharged with the rank of Tec 4 (Medical Technician) on 21 September 1945 at Camp Beale, California.
  • He married Dorothy Lee Huggins, daughter of General Jackson Huggins and Eula Maude Lee, and Edgar's twin sister Nellie married Dorothy's brother Theron Huggins.
  • The following appeared on 13 October 1955 in The Ukiah News: Funeral services for Nancy J. Roberts, 83, who died Oct. 5, in Ukiah, were held Monday, Oct. 10, from the Ballard Funeral home, Rosewell, N. M. Local arrangements were made by the Zimmerman Mortuary.
         Mrs. Roberts was a native of Alabama. The last three years she resided with her daughter, Mrs. Nell Huggins, in Ukiah at 541 South School street. Prior to that she lived in Rockport 14 years.
         Survivors include six children, Mrs. Huggins, Pearl Ward, Laytonville; Sterling Roberts, Ukiah; Edward Roberts, Lonzo Nichols and Ruth Owen, all of Roswell, N. M; four brothers, Alex Beck, Ukiah; Jay Beck, Encino, N. M; Leo Beck, Lefors, Texas, and Boss Beck, Estancia, N. M., 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
  • Edgar Roberts died on 1 February 1981 at age 66.
  • He was interred at South Park Cemetery, Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico.
