  • She was known as Mattie.
  • She was baptized/christened on 22 January 1879 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.
  • The following appeared on 7 October 1914 in The Dallas Morning News: (San Antonio, Oct. 6) Miss Sallie Walthall, 58 years old, daughter of Judge and Mrs. L. N. Walthall, died at her home in San Antonio this morning. Miss Walthall was widely known in this vicinity. She was called "mother" by the children of John Walthall, her brother, because she reared them after his death. They are John Walthall of El Paso, Mrs. George J. Pancoast and Mrs. Mattie Walthall Lehman, both of San Antonio, and Madam Christine Walthall of the Sacred Heart Convent, New Orleans.
  • At the time of her death, her usual residence was in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.
  • The following appeared on 18 January 1940 in The San Antonio Light: Injuries suffered in an auto accident near Corpus Christi proved fatal Thursday to Mrs. Mattie Walthall Leman, 61, 321 West Cypress street.
         She was a native and life-long resident of San Antonio.
         Services will be held at 9 a. m. Friday from the Porter Loring chapel, followed by rites in St. Mary's Catholic church. Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Thursday.
         Surviving are a son, Arthur L. Leman of Houston; grandsons, A. L. Leman Jr., and John W. Leman of Houston; brother, Leon Walthall of San Antonio; nieces, Mrs. Marion Olson of San Antonio and Mrs. Glen Hall of Laredo, and nephews, John W. Pancoast of San Antonio, Lieut. L. W. Pancoast of Hawaii and C. P. Pancoast and Leon N. Walthall Jr., of San Antonio.
         Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
  • Martha Walthall died on 18 January 1940 at age 61 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, at Spohn Hospital . Informant was son A. L. Leman, Houston.
