  • The following appeared on 23 February 2008 in the Palestine Herald-Press: A memorial service for Katherine Taylor Kolstad, 89, of Palestine will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Boyd, assisted by the Rev. Ted Welty officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
         Mrs. Kolstad died at her home on Friday.
         She was born on Oct. 8, 1918 in Palestine to Dr. Frank Taylor and Vera Beatrice Quaintance Taylor.
         Mrs. Kolstad was married for 67 years to Luckett Kolstad Jr., owner and proprietor of Kolstad Jewelers. She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the Episcopal Church Women and in the Wednesday Morning Bible Class.
         She graduated from Palestine High School in 1936, where she was the salutatorian of her class. She received a degree from Rice University in Houston. She taught school at Sam Houston Elementary. She was an active participant in the family's retail business. She was a charter member of the Harvey Woman's Club and she was a member of the Meleterion Study Club.
         Mrs. Kolstad was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dr. Frank William Taylor; and sisters, Ethel Taylor Young and Frances Taylor Johnson.
         She is survived by her husband; and children, Dr. C.L. Kolstad III and Kathy Kolstad Stites and husband Bill. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Jeffrey Kolstad Walker and wife Heather, Molly Kolstad Jamison and husband Jeff, Katherine Mae Kolstad; and two great grandchildren, Caleb M. Walker and Carson K. Walker.
         In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the St. Philip's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 106 E. Crawford St., Palestine, TX. 75801 or to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX., 75701.
         The family will receive calls at the Kolstad home at 118 Berkley Dr.
