  • The following appeared on 18 June 1921 in the Richmond Times-Dispatch: The body of the 12-year-old boy killed near Providence Forge station, in New Kent County, Thursday morning by a Chesapeake and Ohio train, was yesterday identified as that of Cornelius Pegues, the son of a Middendorf, S. C., man, at one time said to be prominent.
         Young Pegues, with a brother, William, and Clarence Davis, are said to have escaped from the Covington School for Boys recently. William Pegues and Davis were taken into custody by Chesapeake and Ohio yardmen following the accident. The body was found alongside the tracks with the right arm severed, the skull fractured and bruises and cuts about the face.
         The boy's father has been notified by J. W. King, special agent for the railroad.
  • He was interred at New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, Wallace, Marlboro County, South carolina.
