  • The following appeared on 17 August 1927 in The Dallas Morning News: The marriage of David Whitaker Hardy of Dallas, son of Mrs. David W. Hardy of Navasota, and Miss Elnora Virginia Randlett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam L. Randlett of Lancaster, took place at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of the parents of the bride. The Rev. George M. Gibson Jr. of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Mesquite, a relative of the bride, officiating. A reception was held after the ceremony, and following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Hardy left for their wedding trip, which includes a trip by boat from New Orleans to New York City, thence to Washington, Philadelphia, Montreal, then to Buffalo, N. Y., to attend the American Bar Association convention. Later they will go to Bigwin Inn, Lake of the Bays, Muskoka, Ontario, to attend the Delta Chi college fraternity convention and from there to Chicago, Kansas City and Battle Creek.

         The bride, who is the granddaughter of Mrs. Virginia A. Randall, deceased, of Dallas, is an accomplished musician, having been a pupil of Harold von Mickwitz and having also studied art under her mother, Mrs. Randlett, a well-known artist.
         The bridegroom, who received his B. A. and LL. B. degrees from te University of Texas, did graduate work at the University of Missouri and at the University of Toulouse in Southern France.

  • The following appeared on 22 March 1945 in The Dallas Morning News: Lancaster's 80-year-old civic leader, Samuel Ludwick Randlett, died Wednesday night.
         Randlett, who once described himself as "an humble worker in all plans to upbuild our community" came to Lancaster in 1889 and went into the hardware business. He retired from the Lancaster Hardware Company three years ago. Major credit for establishing and maintaining the Lancaster school system has been given to Randlett, who served as a member of the school board for several decades and also as the board's president. He served as chairman of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and participated in all of the community's civic endeavors.
         The Lancaster leader had tasted adventure, but he sought the calmer life of this rural community. He was born in Franklin, St. Mary's Parish, La., and as a young man he shipped on a Morgan Line steamship out of Galveston, spending four years as a marine engineer. He then was an overseer of a sugar plantation for five years in Louisiana before coming to Lancaster to set up his hardware business.
         Randlett was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Dallas, and of the Lancaster lodges of Odd Fellows and Masons. Funeral services have been set tentatively for 5 p.m. Friday at the Lancaster Methodist Church.
         Survivors include his wife, the former Marion V. Randall of Port Lavaca; eight children, Miss Grace Randlett and Mrs. Elnora Hardy, both of Lancaster; Samuel L. Randlett Jr., W. L. Randlett and J. E. Randlett, all of Dallas; Mrs. Louise Fowler, Boulder, Colo; Mr. R. Randlett, Milwaukee, Wis., and E. A. Randlett, Baltimore, Md; eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

  • The following appeared on 10 July 1952 in The Dallas Morning News: Funeral services for Mrs. Marion Randall Randlett, who died Wednesday at her home in Lancaster, will be held at the First Methodist Church at Lancaster at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. A. T. Mays, pastor, will officiate.
         Mrs. Randlett, born in 1870 in Port Lavaca, Calhoun County, moved to Dallas at the age of 3. She moved to lancaster after she married the late Sam R. Randlett, a hardware merchant.
         She had studied art at the Art Students' League in New York. Later she taught art for a number of years in Dallas and Fort Worth. She was an early member of the Dallas Art Association and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Southern Memorial Association, Pieriou Club of Dallas and the Lancaster Shakespeare Club.
         Survivors are five sons, Sam R. Randlett Jr., Will L. Randlett and James E. Randlett, all of Dallas, Marion R. Randlett of Milwaukee, Wis., and Ed Randlett of Chicago, Ill; three daughters, Mrs. Louse r. Fowler, Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Elnora Harda and Miss Grace Randlett, both of Lancaster; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
         Pallbearers will be Lamond Henry, Lawrence Henry, Joe Clark, T. A. Fouts, Erie Rawlins Jr. and W. R. Harris Jr.
         Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
  • The following appeared on 17 May 1953 in The Dallas Morning News: Miss Marion Lee Hardy's engagement to Frank Nichols Leslie, stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., has been announced by her mother, Mrs. Elnora Randlett Hardy, 3439 Milton.
         The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mrs. Hardy and the late David W. Hardy, and the prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Leslie, 3407 Drexel Drive.
         Mrs. Hardy gave a small dinner Friday at the Italian Village announcing the engagement, and guests were members of the families and intimate friends.
         The couple's wedding is set for May 30 in Sudie George Memorial Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church.
         Miss Kathryn Smith of Lancaster and the future bridegroom's father will be maid of honor and best man.
         The bride-elect is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and a former student of Austin College in Sherman. Her fiance was graduated from Schreiner Institute and attended Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kan.
